National finals day results may 2009
a very big thank you to mark, sue and the team at the poacher for holding our recent poker final on a hot hot hot sunday afternoon!

also a very big thank you to everyone that made the round trip to duke it out and compete in another great day of poker!

the day started off with us crowning a new two time leaderboard champ in frome's dave kernaghan!
it was great to see many new faces playing for their first time in the leagues final plus a lot of old faces we havent seen in a while, with over 90 players competing we took full advantage of the nice weather and had two feature tables outside in the glorious sunshine!

it could quite possible be our quickest exit in the leagues history with tim williams having his AA cracked when both players were all in however tims aces were cracked by kj making a straight!

play was fast and furious throughout the afternoon and by the 6pm dinner break we were down to the last 4 tables with simon lewis and simon baker leading the charge as chip leaders.

final table chip counts:

zoltan kiss 75k
jamie astbury 36k
doug stevens 130k
ted gill 130k
ria pedder 45k
ryan self 275k
simon lewis 103k
ash mullard 110k
simon baker 52k
nick lacey 145k

a fantastic effort to everyone that made the final table and was great to see many players get there on their first go!

10th jamie astbury
9th zoltan kiss
7th simon baker
6th nick lacey
5th ria pedder
4th simon lewis
3rd doug stevens

heads up chip count
ash mullard 539k
ryan self 510k

in a fairly short heads up match we saw ryan limp in the small blind and ash checks on the big a queen high flop with both players checking a seven on the turn and then we saw fireworks with as pushing all in and ryan saying he has to call as he flips over AA vs ash and his 7-3 but a 3 on the river gives ash the miracle card to make two pair and leave ryan down to 30k and all in blind on the next hand but with no cards connecting for ryan ash's A-9 holds up and he takes down his first tournament leaving ryan wondering what he has to do to win one of these as he has now come 2nd two times!

again a very big thank you to everyone that played and helped with the running of the day pictures are now up on the website!

National finals day results april 25th 09
A very big thank you to everyone that attended and helped with our latest final held over the past weekend, especially Joe and the team at donyatt who provided a fantastic venue and looked after us all superbly!.

We started off the day with crowning our latest leader board champ and master’s qualifier Mike “Big Guns “Gage who scored a very impressive 14,766 points to take down the honours.
Play commenced with 88 starters and with 78 to be eliminated before the final table it wasn’t going to be an easy feat this month.
The fastest exit in league history still remains to kelton Finney for now as it wasn’t until 22 minutes into the first level we saw Gary Welch being eliminated after a big pot where Gary’s pair of ace’s where no match for Steve mantle’s trip Ace’s giving Gary the booby prize and a hall of shame spot.
We saw our first four of a kind with zabrina Enfield’s having pockets aces and rivering quads for the first time!
It looked like our POTY Colm Campbell was back to business as he was flying over the 25k after his ace’s held up in a 3 way pot, other chip leaders saw Steve cave have over 40k in chips followed closely by Julian ledez and local player lee Lawrence.
The play was fast and furious once the blinds reached 300 -600 with many players being eliminated while trying to keep up with the big stacks, and just before 8pm we had our final table.
Bad Beat story of the day goes to colm Campbell who flopped the nuts with an ace high flush only to be beaten by a straight flush on the river!

The final table was full of action with chip leader lee Lawrence raking in big pots from the other players in the first few rounds but lee was all in with AK vs. Karl harpers 4-4 with no ace or king lee was eliminated in 6th place, a great effort for his first final played. the key hand of the tournament which shifted the chip lead from Andy Kenton to mike hikins, saw mike push in late position with 9-9 and with an immediate call on the big blind from Andy with A-A but the first card turned over was a 9 and with no ace landing on the board mike doubled up!.

Final table finishes:

10th Michael cuthbertson
9th Julian ledez
8th Sharon butler
7th bev quinian ( first final played )
6th lee Lawrence ( first final played )
5th Karl Harper
4th Nigel king
3rd matt Isaac

Heads up chip count
Mike hikins 740k
Andy Kenton 177k
With only one hand heads up mike took down his first final when Andy pushed all in with K-10 and mike called with A- 7, mike made two pairs by the turn giving him the victory and Andy a close 2nd.

2nd Andy Kenton
1st mike hikins

Again a very big thank you to everyone that played and took part and making the day a great success pictures will be up today!
